Pinotage is best suited to warmer wine growing regions. When winemaker, Koen Roose, started growing Pinotage on his estate in Elgin, a cooler growing region, it’s safe to say many people doubted this move. The fact that he did this in the first place says a lot about his character, the fact that he pulled it off, with stunning results, says a lot of his skill as a winemaker.
The result is low yielding vines with small and concentrated berries. This is an intense, fruity and complex wine. One that displays many characteristics from red cherries, dark forest fruits, black olives, spice and leather. The crown jewel in the Spioenkop range.
