Pinot Noir is a high maintenance grape. It needs care, attention & loves a cool climate. This isn’t typically how you’d describe weather around Cape Town. That’s why the winemakers at De Grendel had to plant their Pinot Noir on a vineyard which is just under 1000m above sea level to get the cool conditions this grape requires. "Op Die Berg" means "on the mountain” in Afrikaans. So was all that trouble worth it? Hell yes! Hints of strawberries & cherries leap out of this glass and like all good Pinot’s it has a subtle earthiness to it. This one has the potential to age for 10years, ours definitely don’t last that long though.
