Mount Sutherland Syrah 2016

$260.00
750ml
Low stock - 1 available

Mount Sutherland has some of the highest vineyards in South Africa, 1500m above sea level, but it is also in the coldest wine growing region in South Africa. This harsh environment results in low yielding, high quality & concentrated grapes. Just 1200 bottles of this exceptional Syrah were produced. This continental style Syrah is layered with aromas of rose petals, black cherries, cloves and freshly ground white pepper. A succulent and rich wine that is difficult to put down.

Mount Sutherland

The town of Sutherland is a small and remote farming town known for three things, being the coldest town in South Africa, sheep farming and the home of the largest optical telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. At this point you'd be forgiven for wondering what telescopes have to do with wine? The answer is simple, location, location, location! 9th Generation winemaker Danie de Waal started producing wines on the high altitude hills (1500m) of this secluded town because it's low average temperatures cause a slow and extended ripening period. The result of which are intensified flavours and sharp levels of acidity, perfect for varieties like Syrah & Tempranillo.
